Glass Dispersion

Postby not related to on Tue Mar 02, 2010 1:05 pm

Relating to my earlier post. Im tryiing to get maximum dispersion of glass as well as strength in P/C. Now im running a hot mold 180F .Moderate inj speed and high pack/hold pressure. Large Gate/Sprue.And Large nozzle orifice. Now will higher back pressure help? I would think so -w/o over heating my mterial. Hows this sound so far? Any input would be appreciated!

Higher screw backpressure will likely work the glass more and degrade the length.

Increased melt temp and mold temps work best for hiding glass. Excessive shear tends to break the glass fibers and can lower impact. Moderate screw rpm that finishes about 3-5 seconds before mold open is better. Do you know what the screw motor psi is? Over 1,500 means cold melt, less than around 900 could show high melt or long residence times. Is the resin FR or UV stable? These additives can make a reverse temp profile work better without making the additive bloom or yellowing the parts, or shear burning the resin. Rick.
