Hello ..

Can any one suggest how is this diaphragm made? Is it compression molding or "Liquid Injection Molding"?
I was also wondering if this could be die-cut out of a silicon sheet? The diameter is 10mm and thickness, 2.0mm.

Hey Bader!

Couldn't say how the one in you pick was made but either compression or LIM could make it. If you have access to a LIM machine that would be a good way to go.

I "think" it was made on LIM becasue of the very fine parting line in the middle and a little flash on the outside.
I am working on a 'non return valve' with low cracking pressure and need such gaskets. I heard LIM molds are very expensive and unless the volumes run in millions, they are not feasible.

I think these forums should have a 'medical device component section' to discuss such things. Greg...are you reading:-)

I am going to try to die-cut this out of a plain silicon sheet. lets see what happens.

LIM is $$$ and a step learning curve buddy and yes best for big projects. Compression is cheap and pretty easy to do.

If i fail to 'die-cut' this profile from a silicon sheet, i am definitely going for the compression.
Some one, out there, must be making these ???

Hey Bader,
Appreciate the forums suggestion, but can't create a specific forum unless there is so much demand in current forums as to make sense. Otherwise, you have too many semi-dead forums instead of fewer, but more active forums. Very much appreciate the thought though my friend, all the best!
...greg!

Hi Louis..

i was having problems to log-in. thanks to Greg...he is always reacts "instantly" to any issues despite being a very busy man !

OK..about die-cutting the gasket from silicon sheet did not work. I had to get them made by 'compression' molding.
I learned that LIM was an expensive solution and best way was compression.

Did you attend the MDM East in Philadelphia? I was all set to attend by my visa got delayed :-(

planning to attend MDM west in LA next Jan-Feb.
