Color Shift with alcohol-nanotech

Postby BJPASCAL on Tue Apr 05, 2005 9:48 am

I am looking to implement a coating to be applied to the surface of a resin that changes color upon exposure to alcohol. More specifically, changes color and then changes back to its original color as the alcohol flashes off. If this is difficult, could several coatings be applied in very small layers on top of one another so that as one coating is exposed, a color change takes place, then the coating flashes off with the alcohol, leaving the next layer for use again in this color change process? If anyone knows any information regarding this topic or can point me to the group who may know about this topic I would be very grateful. Thank you.

alcohol indicating coating

What resin are you proposing to coat. I has to be impurvious to alcohol or when the alcohol is absorbed into the coating it will continue on thru the underlying plastic and then slowly release back into the coating as the interior of the container becomes devoid of alcohol therefore giving a very slow reaction time to the indicator coating. One of the breaks in chemistry and osmology. Reaction time will also be dependent on temperature if you are successful in finding such a coating. I have never seen a coating that will react to alcohol in this manner in my 30 years of experience.
