There are devices that will separate ferrous and nonferrous metal, but you would have to chop the wire and subject it to some sort of mechanical agitation to separate the plastic from the wire prior to passing it thorough the device.

I think you need to reread those links, specifically
http://www.environmental-expert.com/products/cable-recycling-119029.

The compnay offers grinding erquipment that will separate the wire from the coating in one step.

Here is another link that shows that process in a video.

Obviously, there is the older less prodcutive way of stripping using single strands. Lots of ideas around to do that

Many people do not know that you can recycle PVC. I think more people need to be made aware of the different ways we can recycle plastic, and the government need to be more proactive about it because of the large volumes of waste each year.

I looked into other methods for recycling plastic and found a great blog on how PVC-U plastic for window and door frames can be recycled 100% over and over again. http://www.eurocell.co.uk/9/news/post/1 ... -use-pvc-u

The recycled PVC-U also looks completely new. More people need to be made aware so they can opt for business that utilize this when buying or getting rid of door/window frames.

It's ideal if you can strip the insulation off the conductor, first. Dealing w/ the insulation layer only is much simpler than dealing w/ the wire and conductor. A little of the conductor will follow the PVC insulation, but this can be removed by float/sink (adjusted density of medium) or hydro-cyclone.

At one time we were the largest recycler of wire and cable scrap in the USA.
