U.S. forcing China to re-value its currency.

Postby indiana dave on Tue Aug 09, 2005 10:04 am

I'm sure you've all seen the news.
Chinas currency is 10-40% undervalued.
Without going into the details that I'm sure you've all read, what are your opinions?
Do you think it'll help the U.S. compete?
Is it too little, too late?
Will the price of Chines goods increase?
Will it make any difference at all?
Is it just political, and won't happen at all.
I honestly, don't know what will happen. I've seen too many political moves to get approval from voters, that get shuffled down under the rug once elections are over.
I'm curious to hear others' input.

Actually, Chinese goods'prices are increasing, It is said probably Chinese currency value will go up 5% by end of 2006. I am in Chemical industry and this influence is huge for me, as many items we are facing the competetion from India, Brazil even west .

I think for strong field like textile, garments, handicraft etc. the challenge is some assuasive, but for a long sight, vietnam, Cambodia, india will replace

Think what would happen if Americans insisted on American made product instead of the cheapest product..... Just some food for thought.

This has been broached before. It's been suggested that everybody boycott WalMart as they are one of the largest customers to the chinese market. Nobody can afford to do it. Kind of like we're in a catch 22.
