ABS theoretical cost?

Postby mokh on Sat Oct 22, 2011 5:07 am

Can anyone tell how to calculate the theoretical cost of manufacturing ABS resin based on knowing the price of each ABS feedstock materials which are Acrylonitrilel, butadiene and Styrene. For example now the price of "Acr" feedstock is around 1700 USD/MT, the price of "But" is around 2600 USD/MT, and the price of "Sty" is 1300 USD/MT, then what should be the cost of making ABS resin now? for sure there is also a conversion cost which I do not know.

This info would help to see whether or not we are paying reasonable price for ABS resin manufacturer.
Thanks

Hi,

Unfortunately the price of plastics depends not only on the price of the main raw material.
It must be added the costs of formulation, additives and pigments, and manufacturing.
In the case of ABS, the ratio of each component varies for each reference.

Some company are specialized in prices study of plastics : Icis or Lmeplastics for example.
and on the website UL.Ides

Best regards
