Hygrometric Plastic Fibres

Hygrometric moisture sensing devices use strips of plastic fabric that udergo a special process to acquire hygroscopic properties (they absorb and release moisture). Basically, the molecular strucure of the fibres changes when they absorb water, giving rise to a measurable change in length. I am looking to find a manufacturer of such materials. Does anyone know where I should start looking?
