Looking for unusual plastic surface

Postby radowney on Wed May 08, 2002 5:57 pm

I’m not a plastics person, so I don’t know the proper terminology.

What I’m looking for is a type of plastic/vinyl that when touch or hit will leave a visible mark that will disappear after a couple of seconds. Might have to be made in multiple layers.

Looking for unusual plastic surface

Rad,

I know there are plastic "thermometers" that show color change
with heat--even the touch of a finger----but I don't have a clue:o
as to a pressure "hit". Maybe some of the other Gurus on this forum
know which firms deal in this type of color/temp/pressure technology.
I know there is technology to evaluate stresses and strains using color,
but whether it is available in a plastic film, I know not.:o

Looking for unusual plastic surface

Skip,

Wouldn't want it affected by ambient temperature. And it would have to stand up to steady flow of hits.

Rad,

I recall that plastic parts can exhibit very colorful stress/strain
patterns when exposed to POLARIZED light. That may be a way to
furnish you what you need. I sure do not know who can provide this
technology, but I know that it's out there!!:)

Looking for unusual plastic surface

Looked at this sometime ago. However the pressure
applied to film leaves the color hue intact.
I want to be able to see where I hit the surface
then have the mark cleared while try to hit the same spot again, so it has to clear within seconds.
