Silicone Tubing and Compatibility

Postby BJPASCAL on Mon Jan 24, 2005 12:50 pm

I currently work in the medical device industry and am experimenting with silicone tubing in a new pump set. Does anyone know if nitroglycerin passing through silicone tubing will affect the physical or chemical properties of the silicone tubing?

Thanks,

If the set is used for less than 24 hours and the solution is dilute as it usually is I do not think it will be dramatically effected that would negatively impact on pump performance or calibration. But if you double the concentration and run it for 24 hours at 15 degree elevated temperature you will know for sure and you should have that data in your lab book anyway if the FDA comes asking.
