thermal curing

Postby krane on Fri Jul 14, 2006 10:50 am

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about a polymer that cures to a different degree based on varying the temperature. I am aiming at using temperature to control the hardness based on crosslinking. I'm not even sure if this is possible. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

To my knowledge no. As far as I know most if not all thermosets rely on a catalytic reaction that are heat senseitative and can cure at room temperature. Even materials that use a peroxide or sulfur catalyst can potentially cure at room temperature. The catalyst is constantly looking for sites to initiate crosslinking. Granted at lower temperatures the catalyst is less active for several reasons.
