EPI: Global Leader of Oxo-Biodegradable Plastic Additives
EPI develops, manufactures, distributes and sells Totally Degradable Plastic Additives (TDPA®) that are based on Oxo-biodegradable plastic technology and allow conventional plastic to degrade and biodegrade in the environment.
TDPA® has been adopted for use in over 70 countries. Some of the world’s largest, most trusted and best-known retailers and supermarkets have used TDPA®, including TESCO (UK), Migros Supermarket (Turkey), Carrefour (Greece) and Exito (Colombia).
Conventional plastic resins such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polystyrene (PS) are widely used in the packaging industry. When plastic manufacturers adopt EPI’s TDPA® technology, the end plastic products will become degradable and eventually biodegradable when disposed of in the appropriate environment. TDPA® causes the plastic to fragment, and then in the presence of oxygen, heat and moisture, microorganisms will consume the degraded plastic to form carbon dioxide, water and biomass. EPI’s TDPA® can be added in the manufacturing of product applications such as plastic bags, shrink, cling and stretch films, containers, food service packaging, personal care products and agriculture films.
TDPA® has been tested in accordance with ASTM International Standard Guide D6954-04 and is food contact compliant with FDA (USA) and EFSA (Europe). When combined with waste management programs, EPI’s TDPA® technology provides a means for making plastics environmentally responsible by directly addressing the global problem of plastic waste in the environment.
